Poppy PERSIAN BLUE (Lavender Single)
Grows up to 4ft, with broad, relatively flat, dusty green leaves with small saw tooth edges. The flowers are beautiful with rounded, lavender blue petals that stand more upright than most poppies and look a bit like big tulips. In 2 to 3 days, the petals fall and the seedpod begins to grow. In 14 days it is fully grown. The pod is a dusty light green, pumpkin shaped, 2 to 2½ inches in diameter and sometimes larger. Sow outdoors directly into the garden bed where they will flower. Sow thinly in rows or patches 20cm (8in) apart. Cover lightly with fine soil or compost and firm in gently. Keep the bed moist until the seedlings emerge. Thin seedlings to 10-15cm apart once emerged and keep them weed free. Useful Information: Make 2 or 3 sowings to provide a successional flower display. Remove the dead flowers and trim the plants once they have finished flowering. Collect seeds at the end of the season to add to your collection. |
