Foxglove (Excelsior Mix)
A superb mixture of wild flower type foxgloves includes the rare lemon among several other colour and shades. Wonderful for early summer colour at the back of a border, foxgloves thrive in full sun or the dappled shade of deciduous trees. Sow indoors or outdoors May to July. Spacing 30cm (1ft), Height 150cm (5ft). Flowers May to June. Sowing Indoors Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in warmth 10 to 15c (50 to 60f), and keep compost moist Growing on Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from bright sun. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost. Hardening off/planting out Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2 to 3 weeks before planting out during autumn. Allow 30cm (12in) between plants. Sowing Outdoors Seed can also be sown outdoors in short, shallow, pre-watered rows. Lightly cover with a little soil, and keep soil moist until seedlings emerge. Thin them out to 2cm (1in) apart when large enough to handle, before transplanting to their permanent positions in the autumn. Collect seeds at the end of the season to add to your collection. |
